The Young and the Restless viewers saw Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) secret about Jordan Howard’s (Colleen Zenk) alleged demise come under scrutiny. The drama unraveled when Jordan, previously thought dead, was discovered imprisoned in Victor’s basement. This shocking revelation drew parallels to a 1981 storyline, where Victor used the same basement to imprison a man having an affair with his then-wife Julia Newman. The return of Claire Howard (Hayley Erin) and Harrison Locke (Redding Munsell) added more twists to the gripping narrative.
The Young and the Restless
This CBS soap opera episode also played a subtle tribute to the late Meg Bennett, the original Julia Newman. The narrative intricately connected Victor’s past with the current events, underscoring the significance of the basement in Victor’s darker escapades. As the suspense builds, fans speculate who might discover Jordan’s imprisonment next – Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) or Michael Baldwin...

At the center of the multi-episode event is the couple that personifies Y&r’s beating heart: Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), who become, according to exec producer Josh Griffith, “the overseers of the story pieces that are coming together during the celebration.” One of those pieces is Victor defying the wishes of offspring Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) by trying to bring black-sheep son Adam (Mark Grossman) back into the family business. Another piece? Vindictive Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), hoping to finally take down rival Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), who is currently engaged to Phyllis’ stoic ex-husband Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). Expect the return of familiar faces like...

The Young and the Restless is one of the remaining three soap operas still on the air. Since March 1973, the show has been a famous staple in the CBS network’s daytime lineup. While the series is still going strong, recent behind-the-scenes changes to the writing staff has fans concerned.

Like many soap operas, The Young and the Restless undergoes changes to its writing staff. Currently, Josh Griffith serves as head writer and executive producer. After being promoted as the executive producer following Anthony Morina’s departure, Griffith’s made massive changes.

The Young and the Restless writers are constantly under fire. Soap opera fans are vocal, and the CBS serial has been criticized for its lack of dramatic storytelling. A recent change to the regime could either hurt or help the show.

Regime changes are a common occurrence on The Young and the Restless. A new executive producer and head writer is hired every few years to spruce up the CBS soap opera. Josh Griffith has been a vital part of the show on and off for 16 years.
In 2019, Griffith returned as head writer and co-executive producer. When Anthony Morina left in Dec. 2022, Griffith was named the new executive producer starting in Feb. 2023. Griffith has begun his tenure as a producer with some major changes.

In some of today's most shocking news, "The Young and the Restless" co-executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith has fired all five writers that comprised the longtime series' breakdown writing staff.
According to sources who spoke with The Wrap, the daytime drama's head writer said removing the breakdown writing staff is a "cost-cutting move," and that Griffith will now write breakdowns himself in their place. Breakdown writing staff are responsible for creating a storyline map across multiple episodes of a series. The source also noted to the outlet:
"The timing of the firings is suspect given that WGA negotiations were coming up and the show is celebrating a major milestone with its 50th anniversary. Even more brutal is that four of the five writers of the breakdown staff are all women, one of them being African-American, who was hired with the intended purpose of expanding diversity behind the scenes per CBS' directive.

Sally Spectra’s brutal firing from the fictional Newman Media may be nothing compared to the real-life pink slips just handed out in the writing department at CBS’s top-rated daytime drama “The Young and the Restless.”

According to one insider, Griffith said eliminating the breakdown writing staff — those writers responsible for mapping out story lines across multiple episodes — is a cost-cutting move, and that he will take on the task of writing breakdowns himself.

“General Hospital” counts both a Lassa fever epidemic and a water pathogen story among its most successful medical-themed sagas. However, although COVID19 would have undoubtedly provided ample material for ABC’s daytime drama, it chose not to incorporate it into its storyline.
In fact, while all four daytime dramas that aired on broadcast television during the pandemic (NBC’s “Days of our Lives” and CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless”) worked under new health and safety guidelines to produce the shows during the past year, none of them brought the behind-the-scenes mask-wearing in front of the camera.

CBS has renewed its long-running top daytime drama The Young and the Restless for four more years, taking it through 2024.
The massive, straight-forward renewal of The Young and the Restless, from Sony Pictures Television, stands in contrast with the dramatic, down-to-the-wire one-season renewal for the Sony TV-distributed daytime drama Days Of Our Lives at NBC which was finally completed and announced yesterday after months of negotiations.
With the renewal, The Young and the Restless joins its companion in the CBS daytime lineup, the CBS TV Studios-backed soap The Bold and the Beautiful, which is a year into a three-year pickup through the 2022.

We're ready to round out today's entertainment news.
We have news about a TV series reboot, a movie franchise to television project, and a whole lot more.
Let's dig in!
First up, it appears Greg Berlanti has no desire to slow down.
He's getting back into business with ABC with Riverdale creator Ricardo Aguirre-Sacasa, the latter of which is working on getting as prolific with Berlanti.
They're developing a new series based on the Brides of Dracula called "The Brides."
Interestingly, this isn't the first time a Brides of Dracula-based series has been considered, and it's not even the first time This series has been on the table.
Described by ABC as a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy -- and their nontraditional family, a show with the same logline was offered to NBC five years ago.
While that didn't go forward,...

In 1962, legendary soap scribe Agnes Nixon wrote a uterine cancer storyline involving beloved Bert Bauer (Charita Bauer) on “Guiding Light,” prompting many women to visit their doctors and get Pap smears. There were no Daytime Emmys back then to acknowledge Nixon’s tale, but since 1973, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has been handing out gold statuettes to producers, writers, actors and other creative personnel for their outstanding work in social-issue stories similar to Nixon’s.
The late Nixon recounted in her 2017 memoir, “My Life to Live,” that she had to battle network execs to tell Bert’s uterine cancer story, but today’s writers appear to be able to tackle pretty much anything and everything.

According to an online report, The Young and the Restless head writer and executive producer Mal Young has been fired and replaced by Josh Griffith.
Young, best known for his work on British soap opera EastEnders, had a mixed record at Y&R. Despite some wonderful moments and episodes, Young's Y&R was never consistently entertaining, and he often repeated mistakes made by producers of many past canceled soaps. The addition of the rather boring Rosales family this year made some fans complain they were replacing beloved vets like Doug Davidson, who was taken off contract after decades of playing Paul Williams.
Longtime star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) got dragged into the discussion after speaking out. He tweeted the following on Sunday: "To those who are dying to start shit with me, go for it!! But don’t you dare accuse me of 'racist' attitude when I have spent my lifetime going against that evil,...

Longtime soap opera director turned producer Anthony Morina is taking over the executive producer role at The Young and the Restless, while Josh Griffith will return for another stint as head writer. This follows the news earlier today that Mal Young is exiting his role as both executive producer and head writer.
Morina's daytime soap opera credits include directing at Santa Barbara, Generations, Sunset Beach, Guiding Light, Port Charles, General Hospital, All My Children and The Young and the Restless. He has been a producer at Y&R since 2007, and in the supervising producer role since 2008. He also produced and directed MTV's Spyder Games.
Griffith has been moving around from soap to soap since 1988. He has had two previous head writing stints at Y&R that were, like Young's, a mixed bag. If Morina and Griffith share a common vision for the iconic daytime drama, they have a chance to succeed.

Mal Young has exited The Young and The Restless as head writer and executive producer, Deadline has confirmed. No replacement has been named as of yet.
Young told ShowBiz 411, he “felt it was a good time to move on.” He added he has his own project that he’s been developing and wants to pursue, and also would like to “get a bit of my life back”, noting that running a show like Y&R is “all consuming.”
Young has been with Y&R since 2016. He was named head writer and Ep last year following the departure of Sally Sussman and Kay Alden. He was formerly a producer for British series EastEnders, as well as a producer on drama Brookside, and he co-created And The Beat Goes On for UK’s Channel 4. He previously served as BBC’s controller of continuing drama, where he oversaw EastEnders, along with other serials, and co-created BBC’s drama,...
