For a moment in Bridgerton Season 3, it feels like hope is lost for Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). In Episode 3, she learns Lord Samadani (David Mumeni), the aristocrat Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) has handpicked for her “sparkler,” dreams of Francesca’s nightmare — having a family with eight boisterous children.
And then, amid the darkness of the Innovation Ball grounds, a beacon of light shines through. It’s Lord John Stirling, the Earl of Kilmartin, played by Bridgerton newcomer Victor Alli. John would like nothing more than to “enjoy the silence” of the night with Francesca. Her relief — and joy — is palpable, as is John’s. This is the start of a romance no one in Mayfair, not even lovingly meddling mama Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), could have predicted.
“I really love that relationship, and I think a lot of people will ship Francesca and John — as do I,”...

Imagine you’re walking the perfectly manicured streets of Grosvenor Square in London. The homes are gilded, the pedestrians are well-heeled, and … it’s 1813. Bridgerton Season 1 opens the doors of these alluring houses, allowing a peek inside the drawing rooms (and bedrooms) of the highborn.
Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) is our guide into this lavish take on Regency-era Mayfair, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes. Daphne is the oldest daughter of eight gorgeous siblings, who are all named in alphabetical order. There are balls to attend, orchestral pop covers to step to, and eligible noblemen to impress. Daphne, dubbed the “diamond” of the 1813 season by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), should have her pick of charming bachelors. But a series of mishaps — from those caused by overprotective eldest brother Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) to ungentlemanly advances from an unseemly baron (Jamie Beamish) — put Daphne in an unenviable...

Season three episode three ended with Lord Debling choosing Penelope over Cressida. Penelope was on the verge of accepting his marriage proposal because she sensed Lord Debling could love her for who she is. In the new season of Bridgerton, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) twirl among tacky fake columns. They argue while gazing not-so-subtly into each other’s eyes. Penelope’s skirts swish over a Roman mosaic of two winged gods. The resident mean girl Cressida quips, “Eros and Psyche, battling it out.”
What on earth is Cressida on about? How do Eros and Psyche mirror Colin and Penelope? Most crucially, how does this myth predict the rest of season 3? Dearest gentle reader, this author shall explain all.
Who Are Cupid and Psyche?
Eros is the Greek name and Cupid is the Roman name for the same god of love. His dramatic romance with Psyche appears on ancient Greek vases and statues from the 4th century Bce onwards. The longest written-out version is from a smutty Latin novel called The Golden Ass, by the North African writer Apuleius.

Warning: contains spoilers for Bridgerton Season 3A, episodes 1-4.
The moment that Eloise Bridgerton loudly and publicly declared she “would rather die” than join Cressida Cowper’s mean girl gang was one to relish.
In the Bridgerton season two opener, Eloise’s stock as a debutante had risen temporarily high after Queen Charlotte took an unexpected shine to her. Cressida, sensing an opportunity for reflected glory, swept in to recruit Eloise to her clique, not missing the chance to insult El’s dear friend Penelope Featherington on the way. In no uncertain terms, Eloise stood up for her friend, turned down the offer and marched away hand-in-hand with Pen. Hooray for brainy, bookish girls everywhere! Boo to nasty, shallow Queen Bees!
Then what should happen in the season three opener, but Eloise be seen hanging off Cressida Cowper’s arm on a promenade? After the big bust-up with Pen at the end of last season,...

Two “Bridgerton” superfans are getting the wedding of their dreams in the Netflix reality special “The Event of the Season: A Bridgerton Wedding,” airing May 21.
In honor of Season 3 of “Bridgerton” premiering, the streamer dropped a teaser for the spin-off on Friday. The special stars Tiffany, 27, and Shanti, 28, as the lucky couple who experience all the luxury and decadence of the Regency Era in a lead-up to their big day.
The New Yorkers, who first met in high school, have been together for 10 years.
“I wasn’t really looking for someone, and Tiff wasn’t really looking for someone. We were really just in our own bubble in life, going through life and finding ourselves,” Shanti told Tudum. “We were having those tough conversations as friends. We got a stronger connection through that. So that made us be like, ‘Wait a minute, actually, I could see this person as my person.

Who doesn’t love a steamy relationship unfolding on their screens? When life gives you lemons, you just turn on the TV in order to find something sweet to replace the bitterness of real life. And what’s a better choice than a period drama full of young and passionate people, right?
When Bridgerton premiered on Netflix, it was an instant hit for many reasons. But one of the main ones is the amazing portrayal of different kinds of young love blossoming right then and there.
It wasn't like today in Regency England, there were a lot of courtship rules that young people had to follow, which made them miserable in many ways, but sometimes just added extra thrill to their lives.
There were plenty of steamy moments in season 1, with the power couple Simon and Daphne and in season 2, following Kate and Anthony’s story. So it's only fair...

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
Three seasons into “Bridgerton,” fans of the Regency drama are used to the sweeping romances filled with everything hot and heavy — banter, drama, and above all else sex. Every season has had its “diamond”—Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) in Season 1, Edwina (Charithra Chandran) in Season 2, Francesca (Hannah Dodd) in Season 3. While Francesca might be of diamond status in the courting process of the season, her brother Colin’s (Luke Newton) long-anticipated romance with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) might more closely follow the beats of what the “Bridgerton” audience has become accustomed to.
Francesca’s road to romance remains something unlike what viewers have seen before on “Bridgerton” precisely because of her lack of interest in anything romantic or playing the typical heroine. When we first meet Francesca,...

When Bridgerton first broke through, it felt subversive. As sex has disappeared from film, Bridgerton featured some of the most intimate and erotic sequences on television. Placing this eroticism in a period drama gave the series a unique link. It immediately felt closer to Weathering Heights or Dangerous Liaisons. Now, after two seasons and a spin-off, the novelty has partially worn off. However, Season 3 of Bridgerton does not falter due to complacency. Rather, Shondaland and the showrunners overload the season. While Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton finally take the spotlight, their story sags under the weight of carrying more than a half-dozen subplots.

Warning: contains spoilers for Bridgerton season 2.
Of all the separations shown in Bridgerton’s second season, the finale bust-up between Penelope and Eloise was perhaps the most painful. The former best friends who grew up across the street from one another had once been book-loving accomplices. They’d found solace in each other’s company, away from the ribbons-and-marriage-filled heads of other girls their age. When Eloise told Pen that she never wished to see or speak to her again, they weren’t the only ones heartbroken about it.
That heartbreak continues in season three, the first four episodes of which are now streaming on Netflix, while the second half will follow on June 13. Months later, Pen and Eloise are still not speaking, while Pen is also keeping her distance from Eloise’s brother Colin, the man she secretly loves, after he unwittingly hurt her feelings at the Featherington ball.

Months later, Pen and Eloise are still not speaking, while Pen is also keeping her distance from Eloise’s brother Colin, the man she secretly loves, after he unwittingly hurt her feelings at the Featherington ball.

How do the makers of Bridgerton keep a fandom as dedicated as theirs guessing? How does the Netflix show surprise a core of fans who are so intimately familiar with Julia Quinn’s source books that they’re anticipating every blush and ball before it even gets to the screen?
One solution, as has happened in season three, is to play with the established order of things. Though Benedict Bridgerton’s romance follows on from that of his brother Anthony’s in Quinn’s book series, the TV show has (rightly!) vaulted over that to first show the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Their other answer? Invention. In addition to TV-only characters Madame Delacroix, Will and Alice Mondrich and Queen Charlotte herself, a new raft of invented-for-the-show characters appear in season three. Here they all are, along with info on the actors playing them, plus a couple...

It’s been over two years since we last heard from Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews), but that ends on May 16, when Part 1 of Bridgerton Season 3 arrives on Netflix. The first four episodes will begin to unfold the love story of one Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), aka “Polin,” perfect for springtime.
Penelope and Colin will step into the spotlight after hovering in the background of the love stories of Colin’s older siblings Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) in the first two seasons. While Season 2 followed Anthony’s enemies to lovers romance with one Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), it also unspooled some threads with Bridgerton siblings Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Eloise (Claudia Jessie).
Here’s what happened in Bridgerton Season 2 for those who need a refresher:

Dog toys and roving Regency-era balls. Small-artisan hand-etched mirrors and allergy medicine. “Bridgerton” has become so much more than a TV show. Heading into Season 3 of Shonda Rhimes’ massively popular period romance series, Netflix has found that viewers aren’t just invested in the love story of new leading couple Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) — they want to invest in the brand itself.
That means a fandom spending its dollars on a growing merch and events business that helps them celebrate each new season of the show, which is based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels. Equally important, it tides them over between installments (which take quite some time to produce).

The season is upon us! Footmen in London’s greatest houses are buffing the silverware and arranging exotic fruit in ludicrous displays. Armies of cooks are carving likenesses of Queen Charlotte out of syllabub. Debutantes are being tonged, powdered and fragranced, ready to stand by the side of the ballroom like gorgeous hothouse flowers waiting to be plucked by an eligible lord. And orchestras are tuning up their violins to incongruously pump out Miley Cyrus tunes to get the Ton leaping. In short: it’s new Bridgerton time.
But one mustn’t step into the new season without doing ones homework. In Regency society, remember, knowledge is power. Find out if you’re a dullard or a diamond by taking our 20-question Bridgerton quiz. Queen Charlotte awaits your results!

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
Lady Whistledown’s innovation among the scandal sheets is that she uses people’s names to dish about marriage-mart gossip. But the “Bridgerton” costume department has had quite a novel innovation on an old form, too, and one we deem worthy of celebration.
How we feel about old-timey clothes is influenced by an intuitive set of conventions that reflect our contemporary fashion tastes. A costume designer’s choice of color, silhouette (the outline or shape of a garment), fabric, and texture all work to tell us who is conceited, who is shy, and who is, as Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) would put it, a sparkler.
But if one looks at costumes from Regency romances 10 or 15 years before “Bridgerton” first aired in 2020 — your “Pride & Prejudice...

Bridgertonwhisks fans into a fantasy version of Regency England they’ve never seen before. The series unveils an integrated ton, where biracial romance is embraced and the queen (Golda Rosheuvel) is a Black woman. But, we’re told, the aristocracy wasn’t always so welcoming.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story unfurls the origin story of the “beautiful mixture of humanity” on display in the Bridgerton universe, as executive producer Betsy Beers calls it. At the very core of this tale is the Great Experiment, which kicks off when young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) arrives in England to marry young King George (Corey Mylchreest). The lives of Black socialites like young Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas) are revolutionized in the process.
The Queen Charlotte cast, creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes and the other executive producers are ready to answer every question you have about the Experiment that changed the ton forever.

Any marriage that lasts nearly six decades is certainly a story for the ages, especially if it’s rooted in reality, like the one at the center of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
The origins of the 57-year romance between Britain’s King George III and Queen Charlotte are the subject of the series, which was created by Shonda Rhimes and based on characters first introduced on-screen in Bridgerton.
While the British king and queen are very real figures, the six-episode interpretation of their romance is fictional. As the series reminds you in its opening moments, “It is not a history lesson. It is fiction inspired by fact.”
Portrayed in their 1800s iterations by Golda Rosheuvel and James Fleet and as their 1700s predecessors by India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest, the royal couple aren’t all that was pulled from history books to create the world of Queen Charlotte. Read...

Below, the stars break down what fans can expect, alongside the full video interview, above. Ladies in Chaos Liam Daniel/Netflix As with past seasons, Queen Charlotte’s desire to unmask Lady Whistledown continues, but she’s eager to outdo the gossip writer by finding her next Diamond. Everyone who’s watched Bridgerton Season 2 knows that Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) isn’t a people pleaser. In fact, it’s one of the things Ashley loves most about her character. Kate relocates with her sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), and their mother, Lady Mary (Shelley Conn), to Regency England, just in time to participate in the season’s marriage market. Kate and Mary have high hopes of finding Edwina a suitable husband and securing their family’s future, but Kate refuses to be pinned in by the rules that define the Regency-era social season.
She embarks on unchaperoned early morning horseback rides and is ambivalent about being labeled a spinster at 26. She’s sharp, demanding and capable, acting as a buffer between her sister — whom Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) has crowned the season’s diamond — and the suitors who might court Edwina for the wrong reasons. “When I had the...

Although Bridgerton is based on a series of romance novels by Julia Quinn, the show takes time to emphasize the importance of family life through the Bridgerton siblings' bond with their mother and each other, and the love between friends, even as Penelope and Eloise's relationship is about to become strained.
Queen Charlotte, an offshoot of Bridgerton, has captured perhaps the most tragic love story of the entire series, a fictionalized biography of King George and the way his health deteriorated for the Queen to watch. Although the years have passed, there is still a chance to see the King again in season 3.

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix, naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.
Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.
Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.

Bridgerton Season 3 is shaking things up away from the norm of the series -- but will the show remain as good with all the new changes?
The first major departure from the book series was making Bridgerton Season 3 about Colin and Penelope's love story rather than following Benedict Bridgerton and his quest for love.
However, that's not the only change we see in the series.
Obviously, nothing is going to be just like the books when it comes to adaptations, so we can expect some minor plot changes as well.
Some fans are wondering what this change means for Benedict in Season 3.
We've watched the Bridgerton brother progress through the last few seasons as he enjoys his artwork and gets to know the artist community.
Will Benedict even appear in Season 3? Right now, we don't know for certain.

Netflix and Shondaland have released the official trailer and a set of new images for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3. The trailer teases the steamy, friends-to-lovers romantic beginnings of Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington and Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton.
The eight-episode third season finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) having finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.

Bridgerton season three is almost upon us (part one lands on Netflix on May 16) and the first full trailer has arrived to prove it.
Sensibly skipping book three in Julia Quinn’s frothy Regency-set series and getting straight to the Penelope and Colin of the matter, the third season is all about Pen’s search for a husband. Desperate to break out of the Featherington home and frustrated by her failure to attract attention from the ton, Penelope enlists the services of childhood pal Colin Bridgerton. With Colin’s tuition, a suitable beau can’t be far away. In fact, one might just be very close indeed…
Before we come to all the blue-eyes-bandaged-hand stuff though, some viewers have a question. Who, in the name of the gloriously bewigged Queen Charlotte, is the new face being presented at court by Lady Violet Bridgerton at 0:16?
That right there is Francesca Bridgerton,...

If you thought Ruby Sunday's (Millie Gibson) declaration that one of the situations she and The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) find themselves in for Doctor Who's new season is "so Bridgerton" was the only reference to the Netflix period romp, you would be mistaken. Because Queen Charlotte herself, Golda Rosheuvel, is also among the guest stars for the new season.
Rosheuvel will appear in the first episode of the latest run, playing a character named Jocelyn who collides with our dynamic duo. "It’s been amazing to see the whole world appreciate Golda’s talents, because of Bridgerton, and it’s been an absolute joy to invite her to Cardiff to help launch Ncuti and Millie’s first season," says showrunner Russell T. Davies.
And that's not the only news to break from the show. We also now know the episode titles for the whole of the new season. Davies...
