The Acolyte promises to introduce us to an intriguing new cast of Jedi—and perhaps none more intriguing than Carrie-Anne Moss’s Indara. Described by StarWars.com as “a Jedi Master of great physical and mental skill,” she’s a key player in the ferocious face-off highlighted in the two trailers for the show so far, and she seems positioned as a leading figure for the Jedi during the High Republic era. However, on a show where Jedi are being hunted by a mysterious, dark force, that might not be a good thing. Here’s why we’re anxious about Indara’s fate. Disney+ She Might Be Too Powerful In an interview with Empire, The Acolyte’s showrunner, Leslye Headlund, described Indara as “the most powerful Jedi in the room.” That’ll probably make for some eye-catching fight sequences, but will it also paint a target on Indara’s back?...

CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai‘i got canceled within one week of each other this season, marking disappointing results for two top TV franchises. Both CSI and NCIS ranked as the No. 1 scripted broadcast TV program in the United States at one point, and both of those shows spawned successful spinoffs… and at least one that was not so successful. Dick Wolf can relate. His long-running Law & Order franchise has had its share of flops, and even his successful One Chicago universe has had one of its shows flicker out. Criminal Minds, meanwhile, suffered losses with its first two offshoots. Read about all of these short-lived spinoffs below. Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005–2006) Bebe Neuwirth, Amy Carlson, Kirk Acevedo, Fred Thompson, and Scott Cohen starred in this fourth Law & Order series, which also marked the final screen appearance of ...

Macfadyen did not attend the awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, prompting Helena Bonham Carter, who presented the category, to walk off with the iconic gold BAFTA mask with the promise she would get it to Macfadyen.
The international category also saw upset, with frontrunners “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear” all failing to win the award. They were instead beaten by little-known French series “Class Act.

Susan Backlinie, whose onscreen demise at the beginning of Jaws made countless moviegoers scared to go in the water, has died at age 77. Hosting a programming presentation at a megawatt New York City venue like Radio City or Javits Center is stressful enough. Executives are eager to return to business as usual in wooing Madison Avenue. Last year, the Writers Guild of America went on strike May 2, barely two weeks before the curtain went up on NBCU’s tip-off event.

But co-creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel took things to another level for the Season 2 premiere of their Adult Swim series. The episode, which sports the concise title “Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition Dx 4K (Anniversary Director’s Cut),” follows the eponymous Smiling Friends as they attempt to cheer up Gwimbly, a beloved ’90s video game character who is unable to star in new games because the evil corporation known as Insane Groundbreaking Games refuses to grant him access to his own I.P.
The episode, which was previewed for fans last month after the network’s puppet-filled April Fool’s prank, is a classic “Smiling Friends” adventure that sees the gang rescue Gwimbly from his sad life of making undignified Cameo videos and help him produce his own independent game.

Maya Rudolph and Kenan Thompson reprised two characters they first performed on Saturday Night Live nearly 20 years ago in a cut-for-time sketch from this week’s episode.
It was back in 2005 that SNL viewers were first introduced to ’70s soul singers T.T. and Mario in a commercial parody for a greatest hits compilation featuring the musical duo singing about weirdly explicit sex acts.
In the new sketch, which was performed at Saturday night’s dress rehearsal and posted to SNL‘s YouTube channel early Sunday morning, the duo is still at it two decades later, although the tone of their songs would seem to befit the lifestyle of a now long-married couple.
“I spent all day cooking for you, a sexy home-cooked meal,” Mario sings. “Beef enchiladas, Lamb Vindaloo and a giant loaf of sourdough.”
“Thank you for the delicious food.

Come on: admit it. Your money was on Saturday Night Live opening with Stormy Daniels spanking a satin-pajama-ed Donald Trump with a copy of Forbes magazine.
No more guaranteed big-laugh comedy scene could be delivered to the writers’ room if it arrived on a Lake Tahoe hotel dining cart.
But no. The show’s producers and writers wanted no part of that, deciding instead that the country needed a total respite, something to take their minds off things like no end in sight to brutal violence in Gaza, that criminal trial of a former President/candidate over sex with a porn star, and the news that another candidate’s brain was eaten by worms.
Sure they could have found a few laughs in some of that—and they did, but only for Update. For the rest of the show, the answer was go silly and go silly big.

Of course Maya Rudolph brought her Beyoncé impression back to Saturday Night Live this week… and of course she had to go back on Hot Ones.

Rudolph last played Beyoncé appearing on “Hot Ones” on a March 2021 episode of “SNL.” Prior to this year’s “Hot Ones” sketch, Rudolph’s monologue consisted of a Beyoncé-inspired song called “Mother.

Saturday Night Live celebrated Mother’s Day by declaring what we already knew: Maya Rudolph is mother.
In her monologue to kick off this week’s SNL, the former cast member admitted that hosting the episode before Mother’s Day is a special honor because she has four kids of her own. Then Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman came out to tell her: “You’re not just a mom. You’re mother.” In fact, she has “achieved extraterrestrial mother status,” they raved, and Rudolph just laughed it off before getting deadly serious: “You’re right.” That kicked off a glamorous,...

Maya Rudolph opened the Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” with a tribute to mothers — in every sense of the term.
Hosting the sketch show’s penultimate episode of the season, Rudolph began her monologue by noting she’s a four-time mom herself. “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom,” cast member Bowen Yang reminded her. “You’re mother,” invoking the term’s use in queer slang to describe powerful, aspirational women. “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”
“Who me, mother?” Rudolph asked, feigning shock. “You’re right!” The host then...

Legendary B-movie king Roger Corman, who directed and produced hundreds of low-budget films and discovered such future industry stars as Jack Nicholson, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, has died. He was 98.
Corman died May 9 at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., surrounded by family members, the family confirmed to Variety.

Switzerland has won the Eurovision Song Contest.
Swiss entry Nemo stormed the contest with the song “The Code,” walking away with 591 points — a combination of a jury vote and public vote.
But during Nemo’s victory performance at the end of the four-hour show the singer accidentally dropped the microphone-shaped glass trophy, injuring their thumb in the process.
“I didn’t just break ‘The Code’ I also broke the trophy,” said Nemo during the press conference after the show, where their hand was wrapped in a bandage. “I broke my thumb as well. But I got a new [trophy] so I technically have two now.

‘Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes’ Tracks Novice Survivalists’ Horror Trip Through Amazon Jungle
A doomed expedition through the Amazon is at the center of Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes. The docuseries follows an eccentric guide Mickey Grosman, a former special forces demolition expert, who brought on a group of novice survivalists to follow him on his 5,000-mile journey across the jungle and South America. Those who signed up to take this trip found out quickly they’d gotten far more than they bargained for. This may read like a premise for a big-budget summer blockbuster and hard to believe at times if there weren’t over 700 hours of archival footage from the trip that documented all the misfortunes including a kidnapping, prison escapes, and a missing person. Those who lived through this experience back in 2012 reflect on their time in the Amazon and all they’d endured with Mickey at the helm. Ahead of the two-hour premiere, Showrunner/EP Erin Gamble and...

“I still have the receipts,” he continued. “By the time she got to [the cover of] American Vogue [in 2017], she still had never worn any of those designers. She still hasn’t.”

Before Luke Mitchell made a home on Chicago Med this season, the ubiquitous Australian actor appeared on many, many TV shows, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Blindspot, The Code, Legacies and Big Sky.
But it’s Mitchell’s breakout Stateside role on The CW’s The Tomorrow People, where he played the superpowered group’s leader John Young, that stands out for the actor. When asked which of his past characters he would like to revisit, Mitchell is quick to single out the short-lived series, which aired during the 2013-14 TV season.

Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt rekindle a passionate past romance in Netflix‘s new rom-com Mother of the Bride, out now. After their sudden and confusing breakup right after college, these former flames cross paths when their kids (with different partners) wind up getting married to each other. When Showtime premiered Penny Dreadful a decade ago, we altogether expected a grand monster mash-up. And certainly, series creator John Logan delivered just that over the course of the three seasons that followed. But he also gave viewers something that we couldn’t possibly have anticipated: a horror drama of uncommon depth and crushing beauty. It is for that reason that all these years later, we still can’t help but hope he’ll reconsider his decision to end the show after just 27 episodes with the death of Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives. It takes a village to mount a weekly production like Saturday Night Live, and cue cards are one of the most integral parts of it all.
Now the show is offering a rare glimpse at the cue card team at work during last weekend’s episode hosted by Dua Lipa in a new “Beyond Studio 8H” video posted to the show’s YouTube channel.
SNL famously relies on cue cards to guide its performers through a scene. Because script changes happen so often—right up until showtime—the performers can’t fully memorize anything in advance. These constant edits—and the show’s live nature—also mean an entire team is needed to update the cards by hand with every change.
Among the faces featured in the backstage video is one that viewers may recognize. Wally Feresten, the supervisor of the team, has worked on Saturday Night Live since 1990, and...
