Exclusive: Jack Black and brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the team behind the 2001 comedy Shallow Hal, look to be reuniting for the holidays — and bringing an infamous character along for the sleigh ride. Sources tell Deadline that Black is set to star in the Christmas comedy Dear Santa with Bobby Farrelly set to direct and Peter Farrelly on board to produce with Bobby and Jeremy Kramer.
The movie centers on a young boy who, in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends it to Satan instead. Black recently teased the project on social media when he posted a photo of him posing with Christmas decorations with no context — it got everyone talking about what it could be.

The Office paved the way for many other “documentary style” TV comedies. It was based on the British format, and shows like Trailer Park Boys predate the American Office too. But, the success of The Office meant shows like Parks and Recreation or Modern Family could get away with it on broadcast. The creators of the American The Office said they were inspired by reality TV.

Ben Silverman and Greg Daniels were on a Television Critics Association panel in 2005 for The Office. They shared what the comedy got from reality TV. People still binge The Office on Peacock thanks to jokes like these.
‘The Office’ was more reality TV than sitcom
The premise of The Office was that a documentary crew was making a film about the employees of Dunder Mifflin.

New releases get the marketing momentum and media buzz. But older titles that stand the test of time, often called “legacy” shows, can be exceptionally valuable in the streaming era. Thanks to their rewatchability and appeal to different generations, these shows can be key to convincing audiences to stay subscribed.
We’re defining “legacy” shows as one that had its first season before 2012, ended before 2020 and continues to generate strong demand according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
By that measure, the most in-demand legacy show in the U.S. is “Game of Thrones,” with 80.6 times more demand than the average show in the last quarter of 2022. The show, which ran from 2011 to 2019, is still one of the most successful shows in television history. It received a boost in attention this year from the long-awaited release of its prequel “House of the Dragon.

Kids vs. Aliens gets off to a promising start as the crew of a fishing boat witness a UFO splashdown near them and are quickly decimated by its occupants. The scene then cuts rather jarringly to Gary his friends Miles (Ben Tector) and Jack along with his older sister Samantha (Phoebe Rex) making a super 8 post-apocalyptic epic.
After their shoot is disrupted by neighbourhood bully Billy and his friends Sam finds herself interested in things other than filmmaking. There are just two problems. One, Billy is only interested in one thing, well two things, he also wants her to let him throw a Halloween party at her house while her parents are away. Two, or I guess three now, the aliens plan on attending as well.

Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin know that having their own show is an opportunity that neither of them can waste.
The latest proof of their longtime comedic partnership is Season 3 of “South Side,” the hilarious workplace-adjacent comedy that began its life on Comedy Central and now resides on HBO Max. The show follows Rto, an Englewood-area rent-to-own store, as their employees travel through the greater Chicago area, repossessing furniture and getting caught in the wildest, weirdest corners of the city. When Salahuddin’s Officer Goodnight isn’t somehow wrapped up in those same schemes and scuffles, he’s one of the many characters on the show who gets a full (and sometimes very confusing) life away from their job.
One way to juggle all these different people and ideas is to throw as much into the mix as possible. Over the course of a single conversation, Salahuddin and Riddle mentioned...

Since the American remake of “The Office” hit small screens in 2005, its fabricated documentary style –– often referred to as the mockumentary format–– became a sensation in the United States. With both “Abbott Elementary” and “What We Do in the Shadows” nominated for Best Comedy Series this season, it’s clear that the mockumentary subgenre continues to find favor among Television Academy voters and general viewers alike. But what are the roots of the mockumentary, and what success has the relatively recent sitcom phenomenon had at the Emmys up to this point?
Precursors to the mockumentary format –– which refers to documentary-style filmmaking in comedic media, specifically –– can be found as early as the 1930s, with the Luis Buñuel film “Land Without Bread” documenting a real-life region in Spain, utilizing hyperbole in its narration to satirize the living conditions of the impoverished people of Las Hurdes, contrasting the narrator’s uninterested manner of speaking.

Admittedly, I was late to the "Letterkenny" game, but only because someone told me that the show was basically "Trailer Park Boys," and I still have a personal vendetta against the person who said that because it meant I was a good four years late to the super soft party.
Since the show's debut in 2016, "Letterkenny" has been cranking out about two seasons per year, and thanks to the pandemic giving everyone an excuse to binge-watch all of the shows...

Joining the ranks of hit British shows to be turned into American hits such as “The Office” and “Queer As Folk,” Fox will present a new comedy “Welcome to Flatch,” inspired by the BAFTA-winning hit BBC comedy “This Country.” Sporting less theatrical “Waiting for Guffman” vibes with a healthy dose of “Trailer Park Boys,” the half-hour comedy will attempt to take the TV mockumentary by storm. Find the newly released first trailer below.
Here is the official synopsis from Fox: “When a documentary crew sets out to explore the lives of residents in a small American town – their dreams, their concerns – they stumble upon the midwestern town of Flatch, which is made up of many eccentric personalities. It’s a place you want to visit and maybe even stay. If there was a decent motel. Which there is not.”

In the less than four years, Netflix says it has spent a whopping $2 billion on TV and film productions in Canada. Now, the company is deepening its investment in the country. Netflix announced Thursday that it is opening a Canadian office and hiring a dedicated content executive who will work directly with the nation’s creative community. It comes as the Canadian government is considering strengthening regulations on streamers.
Netflix’s co-ceo and content chief Ted Sarandos made the announcement in a statement that celebrates the company’s deep ties to the Canadian entertainment industry, whether creating a new spin on a Canadian classic with “Anne with an E” or launching homegrown talent like Maitreyi Ramikrishnan in “Never Have I Ever.”

All through the weekend, tributes and memorials poured in for Rush drummer Neil Peart, who died last week of cancer at 67. The band’s progressive and distinctive yet ever-changing sound made a lasting impact on music fans during their 40-plus-year career, and it also affected pop culture, by tapping the minds of creative types who went on to reference the band in countless films, TV shows, novels, comics and more. The list of Rush name-drops runs the gamut from “Sctv” and “Gilmore Girls” to films like “High Fidelity,” “School of Rock” and Rob Zombie’s 2007 “Halloween” remake, which used “Tom Sawyer” in a climactic scene. There are plenty more — and true to their self-deprecating senses of humor — the members of Rush have never had any problem making fun of themselves — the band often played along. Below five of the best and funniest times Rush made an indelible mark on pop culture.

Toymaker Hasbro is acquiring studio Entertainment One in an all-cash transaction valued at $4 billion, bringing My Little Pony and Nerf under the same umbrella as “Peppa Pig” and “Pj Masks” and furthering Hasbro’s growth goals in the infant and preschool categories.
Hasbro aims to expand its operations in film and TV. Entertainment One’s production infrastructure in multiple markets and its children’s programming IP made it an attractive target for Hasbro. Sources say the news came as a surprise to most people at Entertainment One.
Top eOne execs will join the Hasbro team, said the companies in a joint statement. The independent studio pointed to its kid-friendly fare, noting that it has been transforming its business to focus on “high-quality premium talent-driven content,” including its “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Monster Problems.”
But the sale to Hasbro raises questions about whether eOne will remain in the business...

Trailer Park Boys is about what it sounds like, the misadventures of a trio of guys living in a trailer park. Now if you think this is indicative of all trailer parks you should know that this is perhaps the most stereotypical representation, as some are considered to be retirement communities and are pretty well-kept. But keeping line with the comedy and hopeless nature of the show however this show is all about the hard knocks and the rundown way of life that the residents of the park endure. The main characters are, for lack of a better word, idiots

No TV conversation is complete anymore without the Netflix behemoth, as the service adds entire seasons to its never-ending pile on a weekly basis. While recently putting together a roundup of every TV review IndieWire has published in 2018, we came to the realization that it would probably take a lifetime to get through all the shows released in this calendar year alone.
Netflix has said it will spend upwards of $8 billion annually in programming costs. Granted, some of that goes to acquisition of previously produced content — but CFO David Wells has said Netflix will produce as much as 700 originals worldwide this year. That’s a lot of TV.
In 2017, Netflix ended the year by reporting that users watched more than 140 million hours of content per day, or 1 billion hours per week. But that’s a collective stat. To put a solid number on how much of our lives Netflix has been vying for,...

It’s 2018, ’80s nostalgia is a commodity, “Roseanne” is back on the airwaves, and Sony’s trying to revive “Men in Black.” As pop culture goes into the weeds, of course there’s a sequel to “Super Troopers.” The anarchic 2001 comedy from the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere to find a home with Fox Searchlight, generate nearly 20 times its budget at the box office, and become a cult hit. The depraved antics of raunchy highway patrolmen, more keen on pranking civilians than keeping them safe, could have birthed a next-gen “Police Academy” — but Broken Lizard frontman Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the first installment, chose to hone his penchant for crass comedy with “The Dukes of Hazard” and “Beerfest,” among others.

In a rare move from the notoriously secretive streaming service, Netflix has revealed the list of their fastest-viewed TV shows. It turns out that a whopping 8.4 million users have watched at least one entire season of a show within the first 24 hours of its release – a process known as “binge-racing.” The company announced that this practice has been common since the beginning of the service but has really taken off in recent years. In fact, from 2013 to 2016, the number of binge-racers increased by 20 times.
As for the list itself, unsurprisingly, most of the series here are half-hour comedies, which are easier to consume quickly. However, there are a few longer dramas included, too. Notably, big hitters like Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards all make an appearance. The winner of the lot, however, is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

According to a new report from the people over at the Christian Post , some new celebrities names have already started turning up as possible houseguests for the upcoming Celebrity Big Brother edition that's due to air this winter 2018. Before we start running off these names, we want to say that none of these people have been officially confirmed to appear on the show. Some of them are just rumored to possibly be in talks to appear on the show, but no official decisions have been made by CBS. It does make sense that the network would actively be in talks right now with multiple celebrities as they're trying to get the season put together in time for a possible January or February 2018 premiere date. With all that said, the Christian Post is reporting that Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach is reportedly in talks with the show to possibly participate.

Actor John Carroll Lynch first caught the attention of moviegoers in 1996 when he played Frances McDormand’s husband in Fargo (“People don’t much use the three-cent stamp”). A native of Boulder, Colorado, Lynch spent the next decade popping up in supporting roles in a variety of films including Volcano, Face/Off, and Gothika. It was his chilling, scene-stealing turn in David Fincher’s Zodiac in 2007 that made moviegoers really take notice and when he went from being ‘that Norm Gunderson guy’ to ‘John Carroll Lynch, – dynamic character actor’. Lynch continued to impress in roles on the big screen in films like Gran Torino, Shutter Island, Jackie (where he played Lyndon Johnson), and The Founder, where he played one of the McDonald brothers. On the small screen he’s entertained audiences as John Wayne Gacy on American Horror Story and even had his own stand-alone episode of The Walking Dead.
